My first encounter with blogging was ~10 years ago. My older sister showed me all sorts of basic HTML codes to pimp your blog according to your personality, and it was truly fascinating as a techie rookie.
But what I loved most was writing.
I liked fashion at the time. Fashion bloggers were in the rise by the late 2000s and early 2010s. I looked up to them. I started writing about fashion while adding little anecdotes of how my week looked liked- exactly how fashion bloggers would. It was fun, it was okay, but this type of blogging didn't catch on any longer. I got busier and had less topics to talk about as I grew up. I veered away from fashion because it was unsustainable parallel to my lifestyle. I never really had resources to afford such lifestyle:
Buying trendy clothes (as imposed by massive fast fashion brands), constantly taking outfit shots... and never repeating a single piece of clothing.
Having lived in a materialistic, capitalist-centred urban bubble where popular content means "clothing hauls", "outfits of the week", and "brand sponsorship", of course it was hard to catch-up. I gave up on blogging because I did not know what else to talk about if not brand names and the latest in-store sales. I was definitely not woke.
10 years later, with a((n) almost) degree in Geography in Environment & Sustainability, living independently in Vancouver BC, a whole lot of life experiences, and an aroused sense of social and environmental justice, I am back with a lot of things to say.
I would like to use this platform to talk about minimalism, sustainability, self-love & self-care, authentic relationships, and living the reality in a Filipinx diaspora in settler-colonial Canada. I hope to grow from this blog, to create dialogue and hopefully build a positive community that enriches us in an increasingly difficult world.
